Duplex stainless steels combine austenite and ferrite in a roughly 50/50 microstructure, delivering twice the yield strength of standard austenitics along with superior resistance to chloride pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Duplex 2205 (UNS S31803/S32205) is the global workhorse — its 450 MPa minimum yield allows thinner, lighter fabrications, and its lower nickel content keeps pricing steadier than 316L. Super Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) raises chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen to achieve PREN ≥40, qualifying it for seawater, offshore and desalination service where standard duplex reaches its limit.
