The 200 series are chrome-manganese austenitic stainless steels in which manganese and nitrogen partially replace nickel, making them the most economical austenitic grades. The higher nitrogen content makes them stronger and harder than their 300 series counterparts, with excellent toughness even at low temperatures.

Corrosion resistance is moderate — well suited to dry interior, kitchenware and food-contact applications, but not recommended for chloride-rich or coastal environments.
